AFTER THE FIRE
Summer 2022: following an unprecedented heatwave and drought, the first mega-fire strikes south-west France, ravaging more than 30,000 hectares. Despite the scale of the damage, no human casualties were reported. The impact on flora and fauna was major. Nature is resilient and is beginning its regeneration process. Between 2017 and 2022, the Cistude Nature association catalogued local biodiversity. This data provides a basis for assessing the post-fire impact and studying natural recovery. The tragedy raises crucial questions about the management of natural areas in the face of climate change, forest restoration and adaptation to a new climatic reality in France. The Landes forest has never been so affected by climate change... How should we respond? Is it conceivable to recreate soulless, flammable "factory forests" based on the foundations of the old world? Will we choose to repeat our mistakes for the sake of profit? How can we adapt to this new climate that is impacting all living things and our French realities?
